Tarsiers

Hello everyone, we are Gijs, Erwin and Ella, and we will be the mentors of the most amazing group of the 2026 orientation, The TARSIERSSS.

Tarsiers, though known as being shy and reclusive, are known to mob predators. In nature, mobbing is the act of harassing predators to reduce the chance of being attacked. When predators are near, tarsiers will make a warning vocalisation. Other tarsiers will respond to the call, and within a short period of time, 2-10 tarsiers will show up to mob the predator. Even when these tarsiers would normally compete over territory with one another, they stick together when it comes to predators.

Back to the orientation week: Introducing Gijs: fourth-year biology student, ex-board member, professional BeeVee enthusiast, and returning orientation mentor! Whether he’s organising game nights, hiking through nature, or bravely defending his room against its resident wasps, Gijs brings the enthusiasm to make this orientation week unforgettable and show everyone just how fun biology, BeeVee, and Nijmegen can be!

Joining Gijs is Erwin: UK-born biology master’s student, returning orientation mentor, and collector of more hobbies than seems physically possible. From concerts and bouldering to blacksmithing and herping, Erwin is always up for something unexpected. As a member of BeeVee and MOTje et Al, he brings creativity, good vibes, and the perfect pub recommendations to orientation week. 

And completing the mentor trio is Ella: fourth-year biology student, returning orientation mentor, and member of ATP, BeeVee’s sports committee. Whether she’s bouldering, scuba diving, travelling, or organising activities, Ella always brings lots of enthusiasm to the group. She is also one of BeeVee’s confidential contact persons, so you can always come to her if something is bothering you. She’s excited to make this orientation week unforgettable and help everyone feel at home in Nijmegen!
